ELLA Year 1 Training - Day 7
Early Literacy Learning in Arkansas (ELLA) is a two (2)-year professional development designed to assist K-1 teachers in implementing a comprehensive researched-based approach to literacy instruction in their classrooms. This professional development emphasizes instructional techniques that focus on five essential elements of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary) and writing development.

Professional texts needed: Shaping Literate Minds by Dorn and Soffos, Apprenticeship in Literacy by Dorn and Jones, Leveled Books K-8 Matching Texts to Readers for Effective Teaching by Fountas and Pinnell. Bring a copy of a guided reading text (level C/4 - I/16) to use during planning session.
