NWAESC(2095)-K-6 De-escalation Strategies

"Students who are young have a more difficult time, in general, regulating their emotions. We see this in the classroom as “meltdowns” and “outbursts"". When students have trauma, adversity, chaos, inconsistency, or any number of other things piled on top of that, it is even more difficult for them to regulate their emotions. As a result, we need to be increasingly more skilled in our ability to de-escalate the moment and help our students return to a state of regulation. We’re not offering quick fixes. We’re offering the opportunity to learn how real change happens. This workshop will be interactive and will start you on your way to developing solid and reliable de-escalation skills for our young students. *Practice appropriate verbal responses in times of escalation *Identify personal triggers in challenging situations in order to de-escalate self *Design a de-escalation plan for times of crisis with proactive strategies for de-escalation support for all students. Compare non-reactive to reactive responses for inappropriate behaviors"
