Stacey Mahurin, Speech Language Pathologist, will be sharing how to accurately administer and score formal and informal assessments and discuss underlying problems of poor reading comprehension. The first session will review basic testing terminology and procedures for administering formal/informal assessments. Guidelines for administering district-specific tests will be presented. Scoring instructions and several reporting formats will also be addressed. Participants will have opportunities to administer and score portions of the assessments. The second session will review the basic reading processes necessary for comprehension. Underlying reasons for poor or less than ideal reading comprehension will be discussed and profiles of various students with poor reading comprehension will be presented. Finally, several activities for improving reading comprehension will be introduced and resources for interventionists will be offered. Participants will need the following level II screening kits:
- Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing -CTOPP-2
- Phonological Awareness Test - PAT-2:NU
- Test of Written Language
- NOTE: This is a two day training. Participants must attend both days of training
