What does a middle school science classroom look and sound like when students are engaged in science sensemaking? What structures and supports can teachers implement to make this a reality for their classrooms? This session will address both questions while engaging teachers in the OpenSciEd curriculum. OpenSciEd is an open source middle school science curriculum that received an all-green rating from EdReports for meeting all expectations (Standards, Coherence/Scope and Usability) and is a recommended high quality instructional material available to Arkansas educators. This 2-day
session will give opportunities for teachers to learn about the instructional model and experience a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade unit from the teacher and student perspective. OpenSciEd is slowly releasing high school units and this session would be appropriate for all secondary teachers.
