The informative (or explanatory) essay is probably the most complicated to teach. Students (even though they don’t have to read the text because they can use text to speech) can still struggle with the content if they have no background knowledge of the topic. Therefore, they need skills to navigate difficult topics, skills to figure out how to categorize the information into body paragraphs, and skills on how to create commentary to accompany the evidence. We will look at all of these areas.
Additionally, we will study the rubric, discuss the benefits of text to speech, and learn techniques that enhance informative writing, create instant organization, and add interest/sophistication. We will also examine how students can write longer essays.
