AFESC-Make Teaching ATLAS argumentative/opinion writing easier for you

Students are opinionated and love to share their opinions. If we use this to our advantage, this essay will be easier to write than the informative. However, students (even though they don’t have to read the text because they can use text to speech) can still struggle with the content if they have no background knowledge of the topic. Therefore, they need skills to navigate difficult topics and skills on how to provide counterclaims. (They tend to soar with instruction on how to create commentary to prove their point.) We will look at all of these areas. Additionally, we will study the rubric, discuss the benefits of text to speech, and learn techniques that enhance opinion/argumentative writing, create instant organization, and add interest/sophistication. We will also examine how students can write longer essays.

This session will address instructional strategies most appropriate for the following levels of instruction:

Tier 1
