NWAESC(2095)-Social Media: What do Educators need to Know to Protect Themselves Online?



This professional development session explores the positive aspects of utilizing social media in an educational context while addressing the legal considerations educators should consider in the current landscape regarding their private social media presence. The focus will be on equipping educators with best practices for using social media while protecting their personal accounts. Special attention will be given to understanding the potential pitfalls (and legal cases) of sharing classroom activities and information about students on private social media accounts. The session aims to provide insights into best practices for maintaining and keeping personal social media accounts private.

Course Objectives:

*Establish cautions and guidelines to ensure privacy and maintain professionalism when utilizing private accounts

*Recognize how social media can be a valuable tool for communication and community building among educators, students, and parents

*Discuss legal cases and implications related to private social media accounts
