AFESC-From Theory to Practice: Applying Brain-Based Discipline Strategies that will Transform Your Classroom Learning Community

Pain-based behaviors linked to chronic stress and unhealed trauma are heavily present in classrooms, leaving educators feeling a heavy amount of compassion fatigue and helplessness. We know that highly effective teaching and student growth are the intended outcomes of school, but with so many dysregulated students in our classrooms, how do we get there? This session is a transformative professional learning experience designed for educators seeking to enhance their classroom management skills and create nurturing learning environments. Participants will learn to decode the intricacies of behavior by exploring the neurological basis, executive functions, and cognitive development. Together, we will take a deep dive into the Polyvagal Theory and learn how to integrate practical strategies to empower them in understanding, managing, and transforming challenging behaviors. Lastly, explore how to take care of yourself FIRST when navigating challenging behaviors so you can be the best educator you can be. Enter the new school year feeling empowered to manage your learning environment so you do not have to manage your students’ and their behaviors! Come with your device, and ready to collaborate, create, and connect!

This session will address instructional strategies most appropriate for the following levels of instruction:

Tier 1
