AFESC-Freeing the Voice

The body is a singer’s instrument, however, most singers don’t have a basic understanding of how it affects the voice. This hands-on workshop will give teachers a quick overview of vocal anatomy while providing practical physical and vocal warm-up strategies that can be utilized in their classroom. Teachers will work together to explore how the stories in a singer’s head can affect vocal performance and health. We will then discover strategies that will build confidence, curiosity, and power within the individual singer and your ensemble. Led by private voice and acting coach, Angela Collier, this workshop will encourage an element of play that will encourage freedom in your singers voices. Angela has a personal understanding of this topic after having a vocal injury her senior year of high school, and passionately believes that all singer’s should continue to learn more about how the body affects the voice.

This session will address instructional strategies most appropriate for the following levels of instruction:

Tier 1
