SWAEC- Drug Education and Prevention 101



Drug Education and Prevention 101 participants will learn the effect nicotine, marijuana, opioids and other drugs have on the adolescent brain. Prevention strategies, cessation programs, and coping skills and resources to help students quit will be shared during the workshop. Signs and symptoms of substance use will be discussed as well as suspected overdose and what actions to take in the school setting. Narcan will be reviewed and administration of this medication will be demonstrated. The Stanford Tobacco Kit will be introduced, and participants will learn how to use these lessons in Health/PE/Science curriculum. All of the lessons are aligned with National Common Core Frameworks. Cessation and Alternative to Suspension programs through The Stanford Tobacco Kit will be reviewed as well.

Target Audience: Health, PE, Science Teachers, Nurses, Administration, Counselors, K-12 staff wanting education on Drug Use and Prevention.

For SWAEC Professional Development Consortium member districts, the fee for this session has been waived. Members and non-members will be assessed a “no show” fee if you register and do not attend. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified by email (address tied to escWorks) and no one will be charged a fee.

This class includes Narcan training.
