WDMESC: Greer's Ferry Lake GeoFloat and Hike

The first day we will meet at SugarLoaf Mountain via pontoon boat from Fairfield Bay Marina to see rocks with sedimentary features typical of the southern Ozark Plateaus. We will also learn about the rock types in the Boston Mountains of the Ozark Plateaus and how they formed millions of years ago. The second day will be lab instruction. We will identify sedimentary rock types on the Ozark Plateau Province, analyze changes in the earth’s surface through weathering and erosion, infer the nature of ancient environments, and analyze how rock sequences may be disturbed by erosion or deposition.

Special Information:

Day 1 is at Fairfield Bay Marina (bring good shoes, sunscreen, bug spray)

Day 2 is at Harding University Thornton Education Center Room 326
