WDMESC: The Great Quartz Dig



Join the hunt for Arkansas’ State Mineral: Quartz. Quartz is especially abundant in the Ouachita Mountains and Arkansas is known worldwide for its production of quartz. The first day we will meet at Ron Colemans quartz mine. The second day will be in the lab learning how the Ouachita Mountains formed and why quartz veins are so abundant! We will also discuss the different varieties of quartz and other minerals associated with it. Special Information:

Day 1 is at Coleman’s Quartz Mine (items to bring: shoes to get dirty, sunscreen, bug spray, gloves, lunch )

Day 2 is at Harding University Thornton Education Center Room 326
