AFESC-Teaching Community & Civic Engagement in Arkansas

The Association of American Colleges and Universities defines civic engagement as "working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference" that promotes "the equality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.” Education institutions incorporate the work of community and civic engagement into our missions, core values, curriculum, and student experience. The Arkansas Engaged Learning Network, a coalition of Arkansas higher education campuses committed to providing students with community-engaged learning opportunities, will host a conference on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 from 11am-6pm on UCA Campus in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center, bringing together higher education faculty and staff, K-12 teachers and administrators, community partner organizations, and student leaders to share research and explore best practices for community-engaged learning and discuss community-engaged learning in our state and local contexts.
