SWAEC- Using BioInteractive Resources and the Science Practices to Support Student Understanding of Molecular and Classical Genetics

During this workshop, we will explore free HHMI BioInteractive resources as part of a lesson sequence focused on helping students understand the relationship between molecular biology and classical genetics by exploring genetic diseases. Using best practices, we will demonstrate how three-dimensional phenomenon-driven instruction makes student thinking and learning visible. Along the way, we will engage with several science practices, including modeling, analyzing data, and constructing explanations as we model classroom implementation strategies to help students build mastery of genetics and prepare for the ATLAS biology assessment. This session is for teachers of any level of high school biology that includes genetics, and 8th grade life science teachers. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Breakfast will be available at 8:30AM, and the workshop will begin promptly at 9:00AM and will run until 3:00PM.
