GFESC Ambitious Science Teaching Book Study

About the book: 2018 Outstanding Academic Title, Choice Winner Ambitious Science Teaching is organized around four sets of core teaching practices: planning for engagement with big ideas; eliciting student thinking; supporting changes in students’ thinking; and drawing together evidence-based explanations. Discussion of each practice includes tools and routines that teachers can use to support students’ participation, transcripts of actual student-teacher dialogue and descriptions of teachers’ thinking as it unfolds, and examples of student work. The book also provides explicit guidance for “opportunity to learn” strategies that can help scaffold the participation of diverse students. Description of book study requirements: This book asynchronous book study will begin on June 1. All assignments must be completed by August 2. Participants will use google classroom to complete assignments. In addition to the book study, participants will be required to choose one area of focus mentioned in the book. During the fall semester, the science specialist will work with the teacher on implementation of this focus area.
