Ground the subject in the challenges of writing instruction, examine the models of skilled writing, analyze the AR ELA standards, and review the recommendations for teaching writing.
Analyze the idea of writing as a community practice, delving into the recommended instructional practices to guide students to being motivated, collaborative, and skilled writers.
Examine the foundational aspects of writing, and determine how these affect our upper elementary students. Build a strong foundation for sentence-level writing. Understand the importance, practice activities, and generate ideas about increasing sentence-level work. Discuss the basics of paragraph structure.
