Audience: K-6 teachers; Grades 7-12 Social Studies / History teachers
Description:
This course will briefly discuss historical and modern lives of Tohono O’Odham and Pascua Yaqui Tribes who both live within and beyond Pima County boundaries. The emphasis will be on modern tribal functions such as tribal government, current issues and tribal resources for educators.
The information discussed will complement the Social Studies standards for Civics and Government in regards to tribal government functioning. The American Indian strand of training was created with the intent of providing access to culturally authentic knowledge for all teachers with an emphasis on the research and pedagogy of indigenous scholars.
