ADVANCING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH A GROWTH MINDSET:  BUILDING A CULTURE THAT SUPPORTS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS

- Audience: Grades K-12 Teachers and Administrators




The new research on growth and fixed mindsets has powerful implications for dramatically improving student engagement and achievement. In this content specific workshop, participants will learn the research behind mindsets. They will leave with strategies for developing a school-wide culture that encourages grit, resiliency, and growth. Teachers will investigate and apply the concepts of growth mindset to their classroom pedagogy in their specific content area. School leaders will learn how identifying and developing their own mindsets can empower their teachers to foster a growth mindset within their students.


Important Session Information:


OBJECTIVES:

  • All participants will learn the growth mindset research and the implication it has for meeting the academic and social and emotional needs of students.
  • Teachers will identify their own mindsets and teaching style. They will revise a content specific lesson plan using growth mindset principles.
  • Administrators will identify their own mindsets and leadership style. They will learn strategies for how they can better foster a school-wide culture that encourages growth for all learning stakeholders.
