Students with significant language impairments, including learners with autism spectrum disorders, are often limited by their inability to express themselves effectively; therefore, adversely impacting their social interactions, engagement, and overall behavior.
This course will define the components of effective communication and guide participants through a sequence of systematic procedures to promote independent expression of wants and needs, in addition to other vital communication functions that will reduce frustration and increase social behavior.
Participants will engage in hands-on practice of critical components, including teaching initiation skills through concrete picture exchange, discrimination of visual stimuli and generalization across environments and communication partners.
Additionally, participants will be provided with the materials and resources (cost of materials are included in the registration fee) to create their own individualized communication system to use immediately following the training.
THIS EVENT IS NOT PART OF THE SLP OR THE AT CONSORTIUM AND ALL FEES APPLY TO EVERYONE.
