The evaluation plays an essential part of occupational therapy. Evaluations establish the framework for therapy. The evaluation results are the foundation for generating the person's goals, designing a customized intervention to improve the person's ability to perform daily activities, reach the goals and ensures that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.
OTs play key roles in school settings. OTs have important roles in evaluation and treatment for those individuals afflicted with disabilities that may limit the individual's ability to interact, engage and participate in activities throughout their school day. It is imperative that school based OTs are knowledgeable of a variety of tests and measures available for this practice setting in order to perform comprehensive evaluations of the client in the school environment, make recommendations for adaptive equipment and training in its use and guidance and education for family members and caregivers.
