  • Gain an understanding of literacy development based on comprehensive scientific findings from cognitive, psychological, and educational disciplines.
  • Identify and use in practice the essential components of reading instruction all students need to develop foundational literacy skills.
  • Recognize risk factors and characteristics of dyslexia and understand how reading difficulties vary in presentation and degree across ages, grades, and in response to educational experiences.
  • Identify distinctive properties of different text types (for example., decodable, leveled, authentic), understand how and when to use each for instruction, and learn how to scaffold rigorous text reading while independent reading skills are developing.

Important Session Information:

Join our trained facilitators to engage in two days of additional facilitated activities that provide deeper learning focused on the course content in Ohio's Introduction to Dyslexia Course, K-3. Participants will independently complete modules 1-5 between April 3rd and June 6th and modules 6-11 between June 6th and August 14th. This meets the requirements for the 18 hours of professional learning required by Ohio's Dyslexia Law for K-3 teachers in Ohio.
