Made You Look! Teaching Print Awareness to Beginning Readers

Help bridge the gap between students who are print-savvy and raring to read and those students for whom print seemingly holds no appeal. Participants will learn how to identify students who need explicit instruction on print awareness and ways to support them as they learn the arbitrary conventions of our printed language. Participants receive the Region 4 product, Emergent Reader Concept of Print Series, consisting of 6 books with manipulatives to help teach six individual concepts of print. This Region 4 professional development session is funded in part by the ESC ELAR/SLAR TEKS Training Implementation Grant.
