Senate Bill 1196 of the 77th Texas Legislature required the TEA to develop rules related to training on the use of restraint and time-out for students with disabilities. The Texas Behavior Support Initiative training meets the requirements established in the Texas Administrative Code §89.1053, related to the procedures for use of restraint and time-out. This training is also designed to build campus level knowledge and skills on the use of Positive Behavior Supports for students with disabilties and to build campus level capacity on the use of positive behavior interventions with all students.
Each campus (including charter schools) in the state is required to have a core team trained in TBSI. The core team must include the following:
- campus adminstrator or designee:
- general or special education personnel likely to use restraint
Please note that the training for Physical Restraint is not included in this TBSI Online Training. Individuals who take this TBSI Training will also need to receive training on physical restraint procedures from a physical restraint training program chosen by the individual's district/campus.
