As of September 1, 2009 all Driver Education students will have to schedule and take a driving exam with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) after the completion of the driver education course and when they have met the requirements of having their permit for at least 6 months and being at least 16 years of age.
Students will receive their "Certificate of Completion" (DL964E Form) upon successful completion of this class. This Certificate is for driver's license and insurance purposes. Students will also be mailed a certificate for the completion of the Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness program.
Due to a Department of Public Safety rule change, as of November 9, 2009, all students attending a Driver Education class (public, private, or parent-taught program) will have to go to the nearest DPS office to take the permit written test, be photographed, and fingerprinted.
The classroom instructor can provide you with the phone number of the local DPS office.
