This 32 hour, non-credit online driver's education course fulfills the core classroom requirements for issuance of a learner's permit. Upon completion of this course, students must complete a behind the wheel phase of driver's education with one of three methods (cost varies with each program):

1. Public school program: All Behind-the-Wheel Instruction will be held at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School. A driving schedule will be determined after the student successfully completes this online course. Students must have obtained their Permit from DPS prior to starting this instruction. The fee for the Behind-the-Wheel Instruction is $280 and must be paid in full prior to receiving the instruction. Payments can be made to Fannie Ellisor in the Coldspring-Oakhurst High School main office Monday - Friday, from 8am - 3pm, or the full amount can be paid online.

2. Parent taught:

a. $20 fee to DPS for the Parent taught packet (Parent eligibility and other details provided in the course)

b. We sell a DPS approved Behind-the-Wheel curriculum for our online students at a discounted rate of $50 (Course 106 special ordering instructions are in the course for purchase of this package)

3. Commercial school (cost varies by school)

Eligible Students:

1. 14 - 17 years old (Learner's Permit can be issued by DPS at 15 years old)

See http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/teenDriver.htm for documentation that DPS will require for Learner's Permit/License (citizenship/legal presence, social security number, verification of enrollment in a school, etc.) View the Learner License section and the regular licensing requirements.

2. Enrolled in a public, private or charter school.

Technology Requirements:

1. PC preferred

2. High speed internet is recommended. If using dial up or lower band internet, students will have trouble viewing the videos. *We do have written transcripts for all videos*

3. Adobe Reader (free download)

4. Google Chrome is the preferred web browser for this online course (free download at http://goo.gl/eizwe).

Upon successful completion of this online course students will receive a "Certificate of Completion" (DE964E) for Learner License/Permit and insurance purposes within 3 - 4 weeks. If the student loses the DE964E, we charge a $25 duplicate certificate fee. A parent will have to take the student to the DPS Office to complete the written exam and obtain their Permit. This must be done before any Behind-the-Wheel Instruction can occur.
