NWAESC---Arkansas Educators Outdoors: Urban Water Cycle Tour
Each person in the U.S. uses approximately 50 to 100 gallons of water per day. To learn more about NW Arkansas water supply sources, as well as how water is treated for and following its use by humans, join us for the two day "Urban Water Cycle Tour” Professional Development offered by the Illinois River Watershed Partnership (IRWP), Beaver Water District (BWD), and the NW Arkansas Education Service Cooperative (NWAESC). Day One of the "Urban Water Cycle Tour” features a full day excursion to three water source and treatment sites in the Illinois River and Beaver Lake Watersheds to expand participants’ understanding regarding public water supply sources, treatment processes, and human land use impacts on watersheds and water quality. The tour includes a first stop at the natural spring & IRWP Education Center in Cave Springs, a second stop at Beaver Water District in Lowell where water from our municipal water supply/Beaver Lake is treated for drinking, and a third stop at Rogers Water Utility Waste Water Treatment Plant where water goes after use to become watershed ready again. Day Two of the tour features a canoe trip on the Illinois River. Highlights of the canoe trip include the Siloam Springs water supply intake, stream-bank erosion effects on water quality, riparian buffers for stream-bank stabilization, world water quality monitoring, and macro-invertebrate inventory for water quality.
Important Session Information:
The cost includes beverages/snacks, educational materials, and canoe rental. Lunch is not included; please bring your own lunch. Participants will need to provide their own transportation each day to our starting points. Day One: Illinois River Watershed Partnership (219 S Main Street, Cave Springs, AR) Day Two: AR 59 Canoe Outfitter (5 miles south of Siloam Springs, AR on Hwy 59) Hope you can join us!
