SCSC-Framework for Understanding Poverty: 10 Actions to Educate Students



Explore class differences and 10 actions you can implement in the classroom to improve the success of low-SES students. This workshop is based on Ruby Payne's book A Framework for Understanding Poverty. Topics discussed in the training will: - Use concrete instructional strategies to help students from poverty - Understand hidden rules of economic class and effects on behaviors and mindsets - Develop stronger relationships with students to impact behavior - Reduce discipline referrals TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1B, 2A, 2D, 3A, & 4C.

Important Session Information:


For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. All other participants will pay the listed fee including Nurses and Paraprofessionals. All professional development (PD) sessions require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum number is not met; the PD session will be canceled two weeks prior to the event. Registrants for the session will be notified by email (the address tied to escWorks). In the event that an individual cannot attend the session for which he/she registered, it is the individual’s responsibility to cancel using his/her escWorks shoebox. Cancellations may take place up to the day before the session(s). All "no-shows" will be invoiced the full price of the session(s) not attended. No credit will be awarded until the fee is paid.
