SCSC - Virtual Book Study: Book Love by Penny Kittle
Would you like to earn professional development hours from home or at the beach? Join us as we walk (read) through Penny Kittle’s text, Book Love. This workshop is available for those that want to foster a love of reading in grades 4-12 and ENCOURAGE ADOLESCENT READERS. Participants will receive a copy of Book Love by Penny Kittle and be a part of a virtual book study. Initially, there will be one, three hour face-to-face meeting on June 9, 2017. The rest of the training will be virtual: done through Google, discussion forums, and Zoom online meetings. At this training, participants will learn how to use and access the online tools used to complete this professional development. These tools include Google Sites, Google Docs, Zoom and/or Moodle. In addition, participants will be asked to participate in at least five to six Zoom virtual meetings and complete and submit a plan that will increase a culture of reading in their school and/or classroom. All participants will be asked to take a pre and post survey in order for data to be collected on the effectiveness of the course. The course will last from June 9, 2017 until August 4, 2017. If all of the requirements are completed, then each participant will receive a total of 28 professional development hours. It is limited to only ten participants at this time. Important Session Information:
For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. All other participants including nurses and paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. All professional development (PD) sessions require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum number is not met; the PD session will be canceled two weeks prior to the event. Registrants for the session will be notified by email (the address tied to escWorks). In the event that an individual cannot attend the session for which he/she registered, it is the individual’s responsibility to cancel using his/her escWorks shoebox. Cancellations may take place up to the day before the session(s). All "no-shows" will be invoiced the full price of the session(s) not attended. No credit will be awarded until the fee is paid.
