SCSC - Reading Nonfiction for ELA and Content Area Teachers
Want to add some pizzazz to your instruction when you work with nonfiction or informational texts in your classroom? Then, join us as we interact with Kylene Beers and Robert Probst’s work in the text: Reading Nonfiction: Notice and Note Stances, Signposts, and Strategies. These two educators share their experiences and practices in challenging students to read nonfiction (informational) texts. Participants will become familiar with the signposts and strategies necessary to increase reading comprehension across content areas. Each participant will receive a copy of the text and time will be allotted for personalized learning and planning instruction during the day. Please feel free to bring a computer or device to this training. TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1E, 3B, and 3C.
Important Session Information:
For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. All other participants including nurses and paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. All professional development (PD) sessions require a minimum number of participants. If the minimum number is not met; the PD session will be canceled two weeks prior to the event. Registrants for the session will be notified by email (the address tied to escWorks). In the event that an individual cannot attend the session for which he/she registered, it is the individual’s responsibility to cancel using his/her escWorks shoebox. Cancellations may take place up to the day before the session(s). All "no-shows" will be invoiced the full price of the session(s) not attended. No credit will be awarded until the fee is paid.
