SCSC - Learning Blade

This session is designed to introduce Learning Blade to school coordinators and teachers who will be utilizing this FREE program. Learning Blade was developed to engage students so they learn about STEM and Careers. Students who have participated in the pilot expressed their “enjoyment” of the missions. The Learning Blade system is organized into “missions” that focus on societal issues, enabling students to participate in engaging lessons that explore problems such protecting web sites and social media from attacks, predicting a flu outbreak by using data and social media, or building an environmentally-sound orphanage after a major earthquake. Learning Blade also provides teachers with valuable feedback on student skills, while demonstrating the relevance of academics in real-life contexts for students. Our goal is in 2-3 hours to have the teacher feel 100% confident in their ability to instantaneously start using Learning Blade in the classroom. Introduce and explain basics of Learning Blade: Become familiar with the Learning Blade system and the layout of the Learning Blade curriculum. Learn how to set up student accounts and use the student tracking system for managing student accounts and assignments. Learn how to set up classes in the student management system and the reporting functions. Determine how to set up and use the system based on the audience’s specific needs. Explore the Learning Blade curriculum to determine the most effective implementation for the students. Explore the value and use of the standard-linking of activities in Learning Blade. TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1C, 3A, and 3C.
