OUR Empowering Writing: Kindergarten-1st Grade Writing
Kindergarten-1st Grade This workshop is geared for teachers of kindergarten and grade 1, language arts specialists, and administrators. Participants will learn how to: • examine the developmental stages of writing • explore the reading-writing connection • use literature and informational texts as a jumping off point for instruction • identify genre and purpose • recognize critical elements of narrative, informational & opinion writing • teach age-appropriate summarization skills • share the power of vivid elaboration • introduce games for vocabulary development • recognize and build suspense • apply age-appropriate research skills

This session most closely relates to the following TESS Components: 1a, 1e, 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d. Lunch will be provided. Participants need to be registered by Monday, June 12 to allow for the ordering of participant manuals. Lunch will be provided.
