ATU: An Overview of Arkansas Geography

The state of Arkansas contains diverse physical geography, from the flat lowlands of the Mississippi Delta to the sprawling mountains of the Ozark Plateau. While Arkansas’ geography is generally split into a lowland-highland divide by a southwest-to-northeast diagonal, there are several more regional subdivisions. This session focuses on the six major physical regions of the state: the Ozark Plateau, the Ouachita Mountains, the Mississippi Delta, Crowley’s Ridge, the West Gulf Coastal Plain, and the Arkansas River Valley. A general tour of the state will occur, highlighting both the human geographies and physical geographies of each major Arkansas region. D1, D3
