Participants will explore the progression of learning the concepts of multiplication and division in the intermediate grades, to the procedures for performing these operations with larger numbers in the upper elementary grades, to the expansion of these concepts and procedures to rational numbers in the middle grades and finally transferring this knowledge to polynomials will be explored. The focus will not be on what is taught at each grade level, but on how it can be taught to promote the progression of learning.
