3-6 RISE (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence)



Designed specifically for educators of grades 3-6, this training offers participants the opportunity to learn about the science of reading and how to provide effective core instruction as well as support for struggling readers through explicit and systematic instruction for word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension. 

Required text provided by the Arkansas Department of Education: Words: Integrated Decoding and Spelling Instruction Based on Word Origin and Word Structure by Henry, Marcia K., Ph.D.

Each participant will need to bring a composition notebook for activities. 

Recommended text: Fundamentals of Literacy Instruction and Assessment, PreK-6 by Martha C. Hougen, Ph.D.  The University of Texas at Austin and Susan M. Smartt, Ph.D. Vanderbilt University Nashville.

This book is a valuable resource to teachers; however, it will not be provided but could be purchased by schools for their participants.
