WDMESC: Addressing Behavior with Students Receiving Special Education: Avoiding Due Process Disputes

This training is geared for building level administrators, but we welcome any educator in the general education or special education setting.  As a great many due process hearings and state complaints include a behavioral component, this training will provide information on behavior and discipline for students in the special education population, procedures necessary to better address and document behavior, as well as some examples of past complaint and due process hearing findings.  The training will provide an opportunity to collaborate while looking at examples of student discipline situations that commonly occur, and how the school administration, and the IEP team, might address the scenarios to give the best opportunity for avoiding escalation of the issue; or how to best proceed if a situation has escalated into a more intense level in the dispute resolution process.
