AFESC--Nonfiction Reading: Signposts and Strategies

The reading of nonfiction places many demands upon the reader. It requires that the reader utilize a variety of skills and strategies, as well as background knowledge and experiences, to make meaning of complicated text arrangements, vocabulary, and author's intent. Based on the book, Reading Nonfiction, by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst, this 2-day professional learning experience will introduce the signposts and strategies these authors have identified as essential in helping readers analyze and evaluate nonfiction text.
