ARESC-Poverty And The Brain
This year the United States hit the tipping point; over half of our school-aged children are identified as low socio-ecomomic status. In the Arkansas River ESC area, that percentage is significantly higher. It is vital, then, that we understand how poverty affects children and what we as teachers can do to reach and teach them effectively. This session will include a general overview of ways in which poverty affects the brain as well as specific strategies and environmental adjustments that can be made to maximize student engagement and learning.
