Based on the work of Sherry Parrish (Number Talks, Helping Children Build Mental Math and Computation Strategies), this training entails learning to conduct five to fifteen minute mental math lessons that will assist students in building fluency with whole number operations. The training offers teachers concrete steps to stimulate the kind of rich discourse that helps students make sense of numbers, gain confidence, and develop the critical thinking skills they need to be successful.
Since this training is based upon the Number Talks book, it is very important for participants to bring a copy of this book to the training.
