SE Reducing Chronic Absence in Your School

Arkansas's new ESSA plan, recently approved by the U.S. Department of Education, includes chronic absence as one of several school quality/student success measures.  During this session, you will 1) learn what chronic absence is, 2) how it impacts academic performance, 3) how to calculate chronic absence for your school and subgroups within your school, and 4) how to use a three tiered approach to reducing chronic absence in your building.  To prepare for the session, please pull your chronic absence data for the current school year to date, following the directions on this page. If you have questions or are in a middle or high school, contact Angela Duran (aduran@ar-glr.net) and she can help you.

Important Session Information:

If you are NOT a member district of the Southeast Co-op you will be billed $20.00 to attend this workshop.

In this session, we need to have a team of people from your school and have at least half of the districts represented.  Schools should bring a principal or assistant principal, counselor, and attendance clerk and any others in the building that work on attendance issues.  This day will be very hands-on and you will leave with a plan for reducing chronic absence in your school.
