GFESC - MATH READY TRAINING, GRADES 9-12 (3 DAY WORKSHOP)

This 3-day training is required to teach SREB's Math Ready course, but is not limited to teachers of Math Ready.  This training is appropriate for any 9-12 math educator interested in providing engaging, rich instruction with real-world applications.  The course is designed to help students fill gaps in learning from middle school content through Algebra 2.  Although the eight units in this course were selected based on the content necessary for success in College Algebra, each unit is presented in a real-world context that is appropriate for students on a career path.  The units are algebraic expressions; equations; measurement and proportional reasoning; linear functions; linear systems of equations; quadratic functions; exponential functions; and summarizing and interpreting statistical data.  The Math Ready course is designed for high school seniors who have completed Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and need a transition course to get them college-ready, thereby avoiding remediation when entering college.  This course emphasizes understanding of mathematics concepts rather than just memorizing procedures.  By engaging students in real-world applications, Math Ready develops critical thinking skills that students will use in college and their career.  For more information about Math Ready, visit http://www.sreb.org/math-ready.
