AFESC--Mission Possible: Defining Target Behavior (Essentials 2)

This 6-hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of successful data collection and behavior change. The information is derived from nearly 50 years of research on individuals with problem behavior and is based on research in Applied Behavior Analysis. Just as teachers must define the skills and knowledge they teach in academic areas, they must identify the behaviors and expectations they hold for students. When students do not meet those expectations, teachers need to know how to identify and define behaviors in order to address the reduction or elimination of target behaviors and increase of replacement/appropriate behaviors. Defining behavior in measurable and observable terms is a prerequisite for measuring behavior and changing behavior.
This is a second of four Essentials Training offered by the K-12 Behavior Support Specialist. Essentials Trainings must be completed in sequence. After completion of ALL four Essentials Trainings, participants are eligible to attend more advanced trainings on Instructional and Behavior Strategies and Programming to address moderate problem behaviors. In order to facilitate participation in future BX3 project initiatives, it is recommended that districts form teams and attend the Essentials Trainings.
