GFESC - SAFETY IN THE SCIENCE AND STEM LABS

Safety in the Science and STEM labs will provide necessary training and instruction for novice science teachers and those schools implementing STEM into the Elementary curriculum.  The morning session will include our annual Chemical Hygiene Update for all participating schools. Discussion will center around state recommendations for science labs, updates on laboratory safety, and disposal of chemicals.  The afternoon session will focus on the implementation of new science standards and teaching practices in K-12 with emphasis ensuring student safety as well as compliance with national and state regulatory agencies.  It will provide teachers with guidelines for establishing hands-on laboratory or work stations that are needed as K-8 teachers institute hands-on, STEM centered instruction.  All participating teachers will receive a minimal laboratory equipment and materials guide, an elementary safety manual, a school safety plan, and student safety agreement.  Chemical Hygiene Officers can participate in the entire session or leave after the morning udpate.

Important Session Information:

NO COST TO PDC DISTRICTS. Lunch will be provided.

Chemical Hygiene Officers (as well as maintenance staff that purchase and use chemicals) should be updated on chemical hygiene yearly and should have a chemical hygiene plan in place.
