Video 1-The goal of all reading is comprehension. As a student with dyslexia increases decoding, accuracy and fluency, the access to deep reading becomes attainable. Through the Reciprocal Reading process, students learn to unlock understanding of text. Students use a series of steps designed to actively engage them in thinking about text meaning. The inclusion of graphic organizers further enhances a student’s ability to derive meaning from text as well as to build vocabulary.
Video-2 Phonological Awareness is a foundational set of skill that underpin all reading and spelling development. Knowledge of the increasingly demanding levels of Phonological Awareness allow teachers to pinpoint critical gaps that can act as barriers to student decoding and encoding success. Activities geared towards students with dyslexia in Grades 6-12 will be highlighted.
