This 6 hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of successful data collection and behavior change. The information is derived from nearly 50 years of research on individuals with problem behavior and is based on research in Applied Behavior Analysis. Just as teachers must define the skills and knowledge they teach in academic areas, they must identify the behaviors and expectations they hold for students. When students do not meet those expectations, teachers need to know how to identify behavior and define behaviors in order to address the reduction or elimination of target behaviors and increase of replacement behaviors. Defining behavior in measureable and observable terms is a prerequisite for measuring behavior and changing behavior.
This is the second of four Essential trainings offered by the K-12 Behavior Support Specialist. Essential Trainings must be completed in sequence. After completion of ALL four Essential Trainings, participants are eligible to attend more advanced trainings on Instructional/Behavior Strategies and Programming to address moderate problem behaviors. Participants should bring a laptop, tablet, or other electronic device in order to participate in online activities as part of the training.
In order to increase preparedness for participation in future BX³ project initiatives, it is recommended that districts form teams that include an administrator, general education teacher and special educator that will attend the Essential Trainings. Participants in the 4 Essentials does not guarantee acceptance into the BX³ Initiative.
