Author Mark Seidenberg is a cognitive neuroscientist who is considered an expert on language, reading, and dyslexia. In his book, Language at the Speed of Sight, he shares with the readers the reasons why understanding the science of reading is imperative to reading instruction. He explains that knowledge in machine learning, linguistics, and early childhood development can help educators recognize when reading difficulties arise and provide the tools to address those issues. Finally, Dr. Seidenberg proposes the changes that he believes need to take place in our society to help people become better readers.
This online book study will begin on June 3, 2019 and will conclude on August 2, 2019. As the start date approaches, you will be added to a classroom set up in Google. We will use our virtual classroom to share our thoughts, answer discussion questions, and respond to others' posts. The book study will allow you to read at your own pace, but note that there will be deadlines for posting in our discussion board. This will allow us to cover about three chapters every couple of weeks throughout the summer. Once you have been added to Google Classroom, I will email you with additional instructions and our schedule for the summer. I look forward to reading and sharing with you all!
