OUR Investigating Minds Want to Know: Basic Behavior Principles

The four-days of Essentials Training will cover basic knowledge of behavior.  This series of training will give participants the foundation of the science of behavior.  The four -days of Behavior Essentials Training are designed to provide background information for the follow-up Instructional and Behavioral Strategies Trainings (previously Tier II Trainings) being offered.  The Essentials Training must be attended in the sequence offered and all sessions must be attended for credit.

This 6-hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of classroom and student specific behavior strategies. The information is derived from nearly 50 years of research on individual students with problem behavior and is based on research in Applied Behavior Analysis.  Participants will be able to explain the differences in Applied Behavior Analysis as “therapy”  versus as “science/practice.”  They also will be exposed to the seven dimensions of Applied Behavior Analysis to be considered when considering and implementing effective interventions. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to apply the ABC contingency (through case scenarios) to begin to hypothesize functions of student behavior. In the end, participants should experience a theoretical shift relative to behavior management and behavior change.
