OUR Mission Impossible: Define the Target Behavior

Day 2 of 4:The four-days of Essentials Training will cover basic knowledge of behavior.  This series of training will give participants the foundation of the science of behavior.  The four -days of Behavior Essentials Training are designed to provide background information for the follow-up Instructional and Behavioral Strategies Trainings (previously Tier II Trainings) being offered.  The Essentials Training must be attended in the sequence offered and all sessions must be attended for credit.

This 6-hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of successful data collection and behavior change. The information is derived from nearly 50 years of research on individuals with problem behavior and is based on research in Applied Behavior Analysis.  Just as teachers must define the skills and knowledge they teach in academic areas, they must identify the behaviors and expectations they hold for students. When students do not meet those expectations, teachers need to know how to identify behavior and define behaviors in order to address the reduction or elimination of target behaviors and the increase of replacement behaviors.  Defining behavior in observable and measurable terms is a prerequisite for measuring behavior and changing behavior.
