WDMESC: From Anime to Fortune Cookies: Exploring and Understanding Curricular Possibilities about East Asia
Workshop Description (include source of research):
East Asia continues to be a significant feature of the news and of our students' lives. This PD session will introduce educators to East Asian history, contemporary issues in East Asia and global politics, and popular culture students consume (and that we often don't understand) from or about East Asia. We'll discuss research in promoting everything from the samurai and ninjas in manga/anime (and comics) and in video games to the real mythological basis for Pokemon to showing students accurate and useful information to understand news about politics and economies today, including trade wars. The session is free and offers participants experiences and take-aways, from food to books to movies.
