WDMESC: ACEs and Education

What are Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)?  What is trauma and how does it connect to ACEs and toxic stress?  Can the effects of ACEs and toxic stress be reduced?  What does all of this have to do with my students?

Join us and delve into the science of ACEs and how they can change the brain's architecture- the very foundation upon which all later learning, behavior and health depend.  Screen the award winning documentary, Resilience: The Biology of Stress and The Science of Hope.  Learn about the impact of ACEs on the brain and how it affects a student's learning and behavior.  Learn how to recognize and respond to a triggered child and how to form a responsive relationship with them.  Hear what others are doing in their classrooms and schools to address and mitigate ACEs and toxic stress.  Share what you're currently doing and brainstorm new strategies to help students who are experiencing toxic stress and trauma.
