The focus of this session will be to revisit the basic tenets of establishing an effective RTI system within a building. Areas of focus include:
Four Essential Principles
Collective Responsibility--Why are we here?
Concentrated Instruction--Where do we need to go?
Convergent Assessment--Where are we now?
Certain Access--How do we get every child there?
Tier I--All students taught a guaranteed and viable curriculum using instruction methods that research has shown to be effective. Effective for 80-90% of students
Tier II--Moderate/targeted interventions. Effective for 5-15% of students
Tier III--Significant/intensive interventions. Effective for 1-5% of students
Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum: A “guaranteed” curriculum is often defined as a mechanism through which all students have an equal opportunity (time and access) to learn rigorous content. ... For a curriculum to be “viable,” there must be adequate time for teachers to teach the content and for students to learn the content.
